The programme is devoted to the introduction of a European dimension into the higher education and training systems by supporting transnational cooperation between universities, among others, through integrated study programmes at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels, increasing student and staff mobility, and improving the quality and transparency of the higher education systems.
The programme supports the following actions:
| Student mobility |
| 3-12 months student exchange upon institutional agreements |
| Joint Masters Programmes – flexible conditions and higher grants |
| Student placements in enterprises – for up to 12 months |
| Intensive programmes – grants are provided to institutions – short-term mobility projects (e.g. summer schools) and multilateral programmes based on a single host university, – including mobility for students and teachers as well |
| Teachers mobility |
| Short term teacher mobility for a period of 1 to 6 weeks |
| Long-term mobility for teaching is available for a minimum of 1 semester and a maximum of 1 year. Full teaching programmes combined with research. |
| Mobility in co-operation with undertakings – enables teaching staff of higher education to gain practical training in enterprises or training institutions. Duration: 1-6 weeks. |
| Other staff mobility |
| Administrative or non-teaching staff in higher educational institutions, obtain practical training in another institution or in enterprises |
| Staff of enterprises to enable the efficient transfer of knowledge |
Organisation of mobility |
| The grants are allocated to higher educational institutions or enterprises active in the exchange of students and teachers with an aim to improve language skills, organizational arrangements, etc. |
| Intensive Language Courses (EILC) |
| In case of less widely used languages there's the possibility for the incoming students to participate in an intensive language course. |
As regards the target group of the Erasmus programme, students in higher education institutions must have successfully completed at least their first year of study, and students who wish to participate in Joint Masters programmes must already hold a Bachelors degree. Teachers, institutions, enterprises, and other staff active in the field of higher education are eligible for support under the Erasmus programme.
